.KIOk so I am taking one of our regular customers home the other night and out of nowhere he says "S#*t, the end is coming... again". I had to ask, so he went on to explain that apparently a large comit or planet is on its way to end the world...

Ah, ok. Why didn't NASA tell me about this obviously huge event before now. So me having quite a bit of interest in potential catasrophic events like this started googling. And what is it that did all of the reading, worrying and subsiquint processing benefit me?
To wake up and pay attention to each day that I'm given. It may sound cheesy or a little over the top, but that's it. Hell, we have no clue how long we have here or if we are going to have to worry about the globle food suppy this year or next, so enjoy each day as it were the last. Period.

Over past couple of years I've erased a few things from my bucklet list. A few I didn't know that were there, and more accurately, things I needed to experience before the big day.
Where am I going with this you may ask. A little over a year ago I had one of those dreaded things most any american would say leaves them terrified at the thought of... Life without a car. Thats right, walk it, bike it, or bus it baby cause life just changed. I chose the bike it bus route. Not to mention the physical positives that come with such an event, I have had an unusual opportunity to see life from the roadside. One of the most surprising I have found I'd the number of crushed/ran-over cell phones that I have come across. Is this some sort of sign of the times? Are so many of if so busy trying to navigate put lives that we forget what's important (communication) while loading out cars with all of the things we worked so hard to buy?
Hey, I'm just a guy who's riding down the road on a bicycle. And when I do become part of the car owning driving public again, I'd better take out xtra insurance on my phone...

Three Wallets in Three Weeks

It started on my way home early one
morning traveling down I-40 at sunrise, there it was in the fourth lane. Over the next three weeks found two more. Fortunately, with the help of S and facebook, each was returnd to their owners intact. (#2 pictured)

Well as you may know I have returned to the road for at least two weeks a month. The means that I am rolling up and down the roads of the mid-west over towards Upstate New York and beyond hauling and delivering new and used cars with a truck/car trailer delivering up to four cars at a time. I will from time to time be uploading images from the road. And BELIEVE me there is plenty to photograph out here! As I type this I am in Binghamton, NY hanging out in a Barns & Noble getting my head cleared from all the road noise...

OK, now I know you must be wondering... "What the heck is going on with DC?" Right? Well lots of changes here in this photogs life and I am very happy and thrilled to share them with you. First I'll tell you about my career: On Thursday February 12, 2009 I attended the North Carolina Press Associations Awards Ceremony and took 1st place in the "Photo Page" category and 2nd Place in General News Photography both on my coverage on Trooper Blanton's memorial service in the Community Division w/circulation over 10,000. It was such a thrill and an honor to receive these awards and to be recognized on a state level!

Second, this Friday the 13th, 2009 was my last day at "Lead Staff Photographer" and "Photo Editor" for the Mountaineer newspaper here in Waynesville, NC. I will be pursuing my freelance career in the news business and expanding by Wedding and Special Event Photography along with on location Portraiture. This decision was dictated by the current economic condition in Western North Carolina and as a nation as well. I have been blessed by my time at the Mountaineer and greatly educated in the art of photojournalism as a whole during my tenor of the past year and seven months. I am very excited for all of the opportunities that are in front of me and I want to thank you for all of your support during my time at the Mountaineer. I will from time to time continue to provide "Front Main Packages" special to the Mountaineer. I want to thank the Editor: Vicki Hyatt for giving me the opportunity to have shared with each of you "Life through the lens of DC".

Ok, the year is 2009. So I must ask my fellow photogs out there, how often do you have the opportunity to photograph living legends in the 'moonshine' business? Recently I had the opportunity to cover the famous Popcorn Sutton's sentencing at the US Federal Courthouse in Greeneville, TN. This photo was taken in front of the courthouse minutes after he received an 18 month sentence on alcohol and firearms violations, his fifth conviction I'm told. He was allowed to return home under house arrest until the court gives him a date that he must report to prison in Kentucky.

Pisgah High School located in Canton, NC, home of the Pisgah Lady Black Bears basketball team. I must say, this past friday night's game was by far one of the most physical games I have seen in the last two seasons.

As you may have noticed, from time to time you will see photos that I have taken while running the streets of Nashville, TN as I have had many opportunities to spend an afternoon of evening in the downtown area. Such an amazing place. I once told a friend of mine when he asked me why I enjoyed spending so much time there that around 3am I enjoyed chasing "The ghost of Hank"
This photo I took on one of the street corners of Broadway and ? (I'm guessing 2nd Ave) the subject could just barley be seen, an artists poem of sorts...

The story behind this money roll is a fun one... I went to cover a local high school basketball game. Before the game began I walked over to the snack bar to get a snack and a cup of coffee. But my single dollar bill was not enough to get a snack and the coffee was not yet ready. Well I turned around to walk into the gym when a man asked it I would buy a "half and half" ticket to help out the basketball program. I spent MY VERY LAST DOLLAR I HAD in my pocket on that ticket. I looked at the number. Said to the man who sold it to me that he had just sold the winning ticket and to take care of my money for me, we both laughed.
Guess what, at the half they called the winning ticket # and I WON! $118.00 That's my story of the money roll photo.

Throughout my life I have had the experience of having a father who has a 'nack' for business. I have seen Printers children standing watching the press run, the gardener have his child mow the lawn.
